It was a sunny Saturday afternoon. Since the weather is nice, me and my son went to the park. Good thing the park is not so crowded. We went to a secluded spot and Hyunnie helped me lay down the mat. As soon as were done he asked me if he can play with the other kids. I agreed and just reminded him not to get into fights. He kissed me and run towards the other kids.
From a far I watched my son interact with other kids. He’s only four years old and he’s tall for his age. Just like a normal kid, he’s active and loves to play. He’s also smart and actually good in school. We’re so blessed to have him. When I saw him already immersed in playing, I took out my book and began to read. Now I can enjoy a “me” time.
After a while, I saw him running towards me. I was a little worried, wondering if something happened to him. He sat beside me while trying to catch his breath.
“Omma, can I have a new pet?” he asked.
“New pet, Hyunnie? We still need to ask Appa. What would you like to have just in case? “I asked him as I wiped his sweat.
“Omma, I want to have ant as pet.” He declared. His eyes twinkling with excitement.
“Ants? Baby, you cannot have them as pet. “I told him.
“But, why Omma.” Hyunnie asked.
“Because ants will bite you.” I replied.
“But Omma, dogs bite too right? Why do we have them as pet?” he again enquired.
I was speechless. My son has a point. I just smiled at him and answered.
“Because we can keep them in cage and train them. We can’t do that with ants, baby.”
“Cant I keep them in plastic jars, Omma.” He again asked. I shook my head and
“Ok then, Omma. I’ll just look for other pets.” And He runs again to play.
I was eating fruit while still trying to read when I saw him running towards me again. I’m now wondering what he’s up too. His hands together, like he’s hiding something inside.
“ Omma, omma, I now have a new pet.” He exclaimed.
“ Really Hyunnie? What would that be?” I curiously asked.
“It’s in my hands Omma. It’s tickling me. “Hyunnie answered.
“What? Come on, open your hands and let me see.” I prodded.
“It’s a mosquito, Omma. “ He happily replied.
“Oh no, baby. You cannot have them as pet.” I told him and opened his hands.
He was surprised and his eyes rounded. I can see that he’s about to cry so I hugged him and explained.
“Baby, insects like mosquitoes cannot be pets. See, they can fly easily.”
“But, Omma, birds fly too. Why can we have them as pet.” He reasoned out.
“Birds can be kept in a cage Hyunnie, just like dogs. And mosquitoes can carry diseases and when they bite kids like you, you can get sick. You wouldn’t want to get sick right.” I again explained to him.
“I understand Omma. I just want to have a new pet.” He uttered. Although he’s still pouting he hugged and kissed me.
“Do you want to have a new dog, or new cat?” I tried to pacify him.
“No, Omma. It’s okay.” He sweetly replied.
“I’ll ask Appa later if we can go to a pet shop when he’s free. Maybe you can find a new pet there.” And I kissed his chubby cheeks one more time.
“But for now Omma, can we have some ice cream and cotton candy? I saw a store over there.” His puppy eyes trying to persuade me.
“ Aigoo, my baby is so cute. Okay. We’ll go there. Anyway it’s already late. Just help me pack our things and well buy them on our way out. “I answered and ruffled his hair.
“Yes, Omma”. He answered and immediately helped me fold the mat.
We went to the ice cream parlor and had a cup of his favorite vanilla ice cream. On our way out, I bought him cotton candy and he ate this while I drive us home. To keep me amused while driving, Hyunnie sang nursery rhymes. He’s really a happy kid and I treasure our bonding moments.
When we arrived, his Appa was already home. I just changed my clothes and prepare our dinner while the two of them play in the living room. I can hear my Hyunnie telling his Dad stories in his school. After a while the two are running around the living room playing. I called them as soon as I’m done cooking and our little family enjoyed dinner.
It’s only eight o’ clock when we finished so we allowed Hyunnie to watch TV with us. He’s sitting on the floor while his Dad and I sat on the couch. Were watching Chuesok special show and I was startled when Hyunnie suddenly stood and jumped on my lap.
“Omma, I don’t want a pet anymore. I know what I want now.” He declared.
“And what would that be young man? “His Dad asked.
“Before I tell you, Appa can you promise that you’d give it to me?” He pleaded.
“Okay. I’ll try my best.” His Appa replied.
“Thank you Appa.” And he hugged him. “What about you, Omma?” He then asked me.
I just nooded and offered my pinky finger. He squealed in delight and wraps his chubby pinky finger around mine.
“Okay now Hyunnie. Can you tell us what you want instead of getting a new pet?” His Dad asked.
Hyunnie jumped off from my lap and stood in front of us. His really serious and with full conviction uttered.
“I want a baby sister, Omma, Appa”.
I was again left speechless but his Dad is a lot quicker.
“Aigoo, Hyunnie is really smart just like his Dad. We will definitely give it but Appa needs a favor if you want to get it really soon.”
“I’ll do anything Appa, promise” my baby replied and he even raised his right hand to swear.
“I want you to go into your room right now and sleep. Omma and Appa will start our project for you. “ His Dad ordered him.
“I’m going, now, Appa. I’m going. Good night Appa, Omma.” Hyunnie shouts as he run towards his room.
I was still laughing so hard when I was suddenly lifted off the couch.
“You heard what our son wants, Buin. You can’t refuse him right?” Hyun joong mischievously asked.
I nodded with a silly grin and wrap my arms around his neck and uttered. “It’s going to be an exciting night, Shillang. Let’s get in on.”
We both laughed as he carried me towards our room. In my mind I asked. “A handsome Shillang, a cute and smart son. What more can a girl ask for? Oh, I know. Another baby girl right?
