Somewhere over the Rainbow

Happy new year everyone! Here's the 1st update for the year. Hope you will continue reading my fics.

Chapter 14

It’s been a week since her impromptu date with Hyunjoong. Now she’s preparing to watch a theater play with Myungsoo. Three days ago the lawyer called her to check if she’s free. She agreed since her manager confirmed that she has no schedule for the day. The lawyer was so happy and excited when she told him. He’ll pick her up in her place at six since the play will start at seven.

It’s ten minutes to six; she’s ready and lounging on the sofa when her phone rings. She reached for it immediately thinking its Atty. Park but was surprised when she saw Hyunjoong’s name on the screen.

“Hello,Hyujoong-ah.” She greeted.

“Buin, I know you’re ready to go out with Myungsoo-ssi. You know I told you that I won’t stop you from going out with him but just a little favor, okay?” Hyunjoong replied.

“Okay” she simply answered.

“Wear the ring that I gave you. I hope you still have it.” He retort.

“Ring? The one you gave me on the farewell episode?”Hyejung enquired.

“Yes. Do you still have it?" He quipped.

“Of course. I would just have to get it from my drawer.” She replied

“Go and get it, Buin and send me your picture wearing it. I’ll wait.” He gently ordered.

“But Atty Park might arrive anytime soon.” She protested.

“It’ll just take a few minutes. I’ll wait.” Hyunjoong cajoled.

“Alright, alright.” Hyejung replied and rushed to her room when she heard him dropped the call. She kept the ring on a box stashed on a drawer along with the jar of paper cranes. It’s been years since she last wore it but she knew that Hyunjoong will not stop calling her if she didn’t follow his request. When she found the ring, she ran back to the living room, took a picture and sent it to him. Not even a minute passed and she heard her phone rang again.

“Thank you, Buin. Now you have a reminder of me. Enjoy the show.” Hyunjoong said with a chuckle.

“You are really weird, Hyunjoong-ah. I just don’t know why I let you trick me.” Hyejung replied.

“Because you still like me and you don’t want to disappoint me.” He giggled after saying this.

“Aissh, I cannot win with you.” Hyejung retort sniggering. Just then, she heard the doorbell ring.

“Hyunjoong-ah, I guess its Atty.Park.Talk to you again soon, okay?”

“Alright, Buin. I’ll call you later. Enjoy the show.” Hyunjoong replied and hung up.

Hyejung walked towards the door. When she confirmed that it’s Myungsoo on waiting on the other side, she opened the door and let him in.

“Good evening Hyejung-ssi. You are so lovely tonight.” Myungsoo greeted.

“Good evening, Myungsoo-ssi. Would you like something to drink?” she replied.

“No need to bother Hyejungssi. By the way, flowers for you.” And he handed her a bouquet of red roses.

Hyejung thanked him excused herself so she can put the flowers on a vase. She asked the lawyer to take a seat and then head to her room. When she came back, she has her purse with her.

“I’m all set, Myungsoo-ssi. We can leave now.” She said.

The lawyer stood up and together they made their way out of her place. Hwangbo noticed how gentleman Myungsso is. He always has his hand on her elbow and letting her walk on the safe side. He chatted comfortably with her, making jokes every now and then. He’s fun to be with and she was at ease with his company. They reached the venue in no time. Myungsoo opened the door for her and assisted her as they walked towards the lobby. When then were just about to reach the hall, Myungsoo stopped so she stopped as well. He led her to the side making her very curious.

“Hyejung-ssi, I’ve not been totally honest with you.” Myungsoo started nervously.

“Huh? Kindly explain Myungsoo-ssi.” She replied

“It’s not only you who I invited to the play.” He answered. When she nodded at him, he continued his explanation.

“You see, I’ve told my parents about you. And when I told them that you agreed to watch the play with me, they insisted to come and meet you. They are now waiting at the hall.”

Hyejung was surprised with what the lawyer told her and she wasn’t able to reply immediately.

“I know I’m wrong for not informing you and making you uncomfortable. They were just so excited to meet you. I’ m just scared that you’d backed out if you knew they were coming with us.” He apologetically told her.

“Its okay, Myungsoo-ssi." She answered with a smile. “I was just surprised but it’s okay. Come on, let’s go. The show might start soon.”

Myungsoo’s face light up with her words. “Thank you, Hyejung-ssi for understanding.” And he again led her towards the hall.

Since it only half past six, there are only a few people inside the hall. Myungsoo led her near the stage where a couple was sitting, talking in hush to each other. They walked towards them and Myungsoo gently called out.

“ Omma, Appa.”

The lady turned and flashed a smile. She assisted the man beside her as they stood up. Myungsoo led Hyejung and bowed before them.

“Good evening, Omma, Appa. Were you waiting for long?”

“Good evening, Myungsoo-yah. We just arrived too.” His mother replied.

“ Omma, Appa, this is Hwangbo Hyejung, the woman I was telling you about. Hyejung-ssi, my father- Park Kahi and my mother, Park Beka.

“Hello, Sir, Ma’am. I’m Hwangbo Hyejung. It’s so nice to meet you.” Hwangbo greeted and bowed at the couple.

“It’s our pleasure to meet you, Hyejung-ssi. My son talks about you a lot.” Park Kahi greeted back with a reserved smile.

“My son really has good taste. I’d be so thrilled to have you in the family.” Beka squealed and hugged Hyejung.

“Omma, don’t pressure, Hyejung. We’re just here to watch the show.” Myungsoo reminded his mother.

“Oh, I’m so sorry Hyejung-ssi. I was a bit overboard there. I just really like you. Forgive this old lady, eh” Beka blabbered.

“Its okay, Beka-ssi." She simply replied with a smile.

“Then you would sat beside me, okay?” and Beka held her hand and walked towards the seat. Beka sat on Hyejung’s right while Myungsoo sat on her left.

The show started at exactly seven in the evening and lasted for almost two hours. After the show, Myungsoo invited her for dinner. Beka pleaded for her to join them making it hard for her to refuse. This woman is really sweet and warm. Since the Park couple has their car, they will just follow Myungsoo and Hyejung.

“You really have nice parents, Myungsoo-ssi.” Hyejung chatted on the way to the restaurant.

“Thank you, Hyejung-ssi. I’m so lucky to have them. They’ve been very supportive with all my decision. Uncle Mirin and Aunt Hera were same as them. You would love them too if you’ve got to know them.” He replied fondly.

“I know I would. I already like them just by the way you talk about them. When Hyunjoong and I stayed at Choi Estate, we saw how the staff loved the Choi’s. It would really be nice if we could have met them.” She answered.

“Hyejung-ssi, I know you and Hyunjoong are really close but I won’t give up. I will try my best for you to like me.” Myungsoo declared.

Hyejung just nodded. She’s impressed with the way Myungsoo still wants to prove himself although he knew that Hyunjoong has an advantage- with him being her ex husband on a show.

When they reached the restaurant, they were lead to their table. Myungsoo’s parents arrived shortly and they enjoyed the scrumptious dinner. Throughout the dinner, Hyejung saw how attentive the lawyer is not only to her but also to his parents. They shared stories, talk about the Choi’s and a lot of stuff. They didn’t notice the time passed, and only when Kahi’s watched alarmed that they decided to call it a night. It was time for his medicine and it’s already nine in the evening.

They bid goodbye to Kahi and Beka at the parking lot. Beka kept reminding Hyejung to call her especially when she’s in Choi Estate so she can come over and see her again. Hyejung told her that she’ll do that and the woman hugged her and whispered.

“I really wish for you and my Myungsoo."

Hyejung just gave her a shy smile and bowed as the couple get into their car. They followed them out and reached Hyejung’s place in about ten minutes.

“I had fun tonight, Myungsoo-ssi. Thank you for bringing me to the play and for introducing your parents.” Hyejung told the lawyer before she got out of the car.

“Thank you for putting up with my Mom’s teasing. She’s been bugging me to find a woman to marry ever since I turned thirty and she likes you a lot just like I do. I hope we can still go out some other time.” Myungsoo replied.

Hyejung smiled and said “Oh it’s okay. I like your mother. She was fun to be with. I got to go now. Be careful on your way home.”

“Good night, Hyejung-ssi. I’ll see you again soon.” And Myungsoo drove out as Hyejung walked towards her place.

Hyejung checked her phone while on the elevator and can’t help but laughed when she saw the messages on her phone.

“It’s already eight in the evening, are you still not home.”

“It’s already half past eight. Matic told me that you might be enjoying the lawyer’s company too much. Is it true, Buin?

“Buin, it’s already nine and I have lost track counting how many times I’ve checked my phone to see if you have sent me message. Matic’s been giving me an odd look. Maybe his thinking how pathetic I look right now."

“Buin, Buin, its past nine. Where are you? I’m going to drive to your place if you will not reply before ten. I locked Matic in the bathroom for five minutes. He keeps on whining."

The last message was sent just a few minutes ago so Hyejung decided to call Hyujoong as soon as she stepped out of the elevator. Her call was answered in just one ring.

“Hyunjoong-ah, I’m home. I’m safe and I had a fun night. I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow if you drop by my place, let’s say seven in the evening. For now I’ll just take a shower then sleep. Do the same, okay? And don’t forget to let Matic out of the bathroom. Say sorry to him too. Good night.” Hyejung rattled and hung up before Hyunjoong can utter a reply.

She just got inside her home and locked her doors when she got his reply.

“Okay, Buin. I’ll see you tomorrow. I’ll bring Matic too so you can talk to him.”
