Somewhere Over the Rainbow

hello guys. sorry for not updating quickly. Been busy with work. Anyways, here's Chapter 2 for all of you. Hope you enjoy =)

Chapter 2

Myungsoo reached the office still bewildered with Minri’s request. He went to his office and again checked the last will and testament. The Choi’s estate will be left to Hwangbo Hyejung and Kim Hyunjoong as well as half of the share of Choi’s Gallery- Minri’s furniture business. The other half will be left to him as well as the other properties of Minri and Hera. Since Minri was an only son, there’s no one else to left the property with except the Park family. Myungsoo double checked everything before heading out to meet with his lawyer friend to notarize the documents. On his way out, he found his secretary busy with her phone searching the net.

“Shin, I’ll be back after lunch. I just need to meet up with a friend. And by the way, can you do me a favor? I need information on Hwangbo Hyejung and Kim Hyunjoong.”

His secretary was surprised with his order so she asked. “Boss, I never knew you were interested in the Ssangchu couple."

“Ssangchu couple? Are they together? Married?” He asked back.

“They starred in a reality show called We Got Married and they were popularly known as the Ssangchu couple. That was in 2008.” Shin replied.

Myungsoo was about to asked her another question but his phone rang. His friend was already waiting on the café’ so he’d better run to meet him.

“Thank you Shin. Just give me all the information you can get on both of them. I need to go now.” And he made his way out of the office.

When he reached the café, his friend Jay Kim was already waiting.

“Hey, Jay. Thanks for coming. “He greeted his friend and took a nearby chair.

“No worries, man. Anyway, why the rush? Is Uncle Mirin sick?” Jay asked. Jay and Myungsoo were also friends since they were little and they used to play in Mirin’s house.

“He said he’s not as healthy as before. I was quite surprised too. He just called me last night but when I dropped by this morning he already has everything ready." Myungsoo answered.

“So I guess he’s leaving everything to you?” Jay enquired as he checked the documents.

“Only half of the share for Choi’s gallery and other properties. You better check the papers, Jay.” He replied as he sipped coffee. He let his friend read the will.

“Choi’s estate and the other half will be for Hwangbo Hyejung and Kim Hyunjoong? Are they related to Uncle Mirin or Aunt Hera? He never told us about other living relatives’ right?” Jay questioned in surprise.

“As far as I know, he doesn’t have any other living relatives here. I also wonder what his connection with the two artists is. He just told me that I have to follow his will and help him to fulfill his promise to Aunt Hera. Oh, and he left me this other envelop which will explain everything. This will only be open when it’s time to read the will.” Myungsoo responded.

“Well if that’s the case, then we can’t do anything. Uncle Mirin is a sensible man so I guess there’s a very valid reason for this. I will have my secretary send this back to you after I notarize everything. I just have picked up Mari for lunch.” Jay informed him.

“Aissh, I thought we’ll have time to catch up. But your wife has to come first, right. How’s Mari anyway?” Myungsoo reacted.

“Mari’s okay but she’s getting crankier now. I guess the additional weight due to pregnancy and hormones are really affecting her. But we’re both excited. In two months, Myungsoo, we’ll be seeing our son.” Jay replied with excitement.

“Good for you Jay. I will be the godfather, okay. Just tell Mari I said hi.” Myungsoo offered.

“Of course, you will be. I hope you find yourself a good woman Myungsoo. Don’t miss out on family life.” Jay sincerely reminded him.

“Don’t worry, Jay. I will try to go out more often. Who knows, maybe I’ll meet her soon. Go now and don’t let your wife wait.”

“Ok, man. I’ll go. I’ll ring you once the papers are ready. Talk to you soon.” And Jay left Myungsoo on the café.

Myungsoo decided to head back to his office. His secretary was on her way out when he came in.

“Boss, you’re back early. I left all the info I got for the Ssangchu couple. I’ll be heading out for lunch. Would you like me to bring you something” She informed him.

“Jay has to pick up his wife. Just bring me chicken salad please.” He answered then head back to his office.

Myungsoo began reading all the articles Shin has downloaded. She also provided pictures for both. After about thirty minutes, Shin knocked on his door with his lunch. He just asked her to put it in the desk and continue reading the files.

On the other side of Korea, Hwangbo is in Shimsontang having lunch with her high school friends. They’re busy preparing for Kimi’s bridal shower.

“Hyejung-ah, you’re the only one left who’s not yet married in our group. You should hurry and find a man of your own." One of her friend stated.

“That’s true Hyejung-ah. You’re not getting any younger. Are you seeing anyone right now?” another friend asked.

“Well guys just in case you forgot I already got married once." She replied with a smile.

“What?!!! You got married? When was this?” Kimi asked in surprise.

Hwangbo laughed and answered. “Back in 2008 then I got divorced too.”

“Yah! Hyejung-ah you’re kidding us again. That was just a show.” Kimi replied and hit her shoulder when she realized what Hwangbo meant.

“Seriously, Hyejung. We want to see you walk down the aisle soon and when we see each other again, you’ll have your baby with you.” One of her friend interjected.

“Guys, thank you for all your concern. I know how happy you are with your family and that you want me to experience the same thing. It’s just that I’m also happy with what I have right now. I don’t wanna rush things. If God will send that man for me, then I’ll gladly accept it. If not, then it’s meant to be that way.” Hyejung voiced out.

“But Hyejung-ah, be honest. Did you fell in love with that young husband of yours? I mean, you were so lucky to be paired with him.” Kimi asked again.

“Maybe like is the better term. I enjoy his 4dness, his witty remarks, his own ways of being sweet, I mean, what’s not to like. He is good lookig and even when he was just twenty three then; he got a body to die for.” Hyejung replied with a glint of playfulness. All her friends laugh and they continue planning. But at the back of her mind a niggling thought surfaced.

“I wonder if he’s okay. I hope he’s healthy, he’s so busy with his drama and all.”

Meanwhile, Hyunjoong was on break on the location set of his drama. Just one more month of filming and he’ll be free. For the last couple of months, he was like a machine, working hard like a maniac. He barely completed five hours of sleep every day so on his free day he would only sleep the whole time. He’s really looking forward to his vacation after the filming. As for his drama, ratings are doing well. He also got a lot of support from international fans. Although he is slightly irritated with how they link her to her co star, he can’t do anything about it. The lead actress in the drama, well she’s pretty and nice but she’s just a noona to him. And he knows that she is dating someone not from the entertainment business. He tried to find a comfortable spot and catch a wink when suddenly he heard the PD called him. The fifteen minute break is up so he needs to get back to filming. He was walking slowly towards the set when he heard a familiar laugh.

“Hwang Buin?” he exclaimed and tried to look for her. Just then, one of the coordi assistant passed him by, an IPAD on her hand watching something. Then he realized that it was from whatever the assistant was watching- Muhan girls perhaps. He smiled, shook his head and whispered.

“You’re losing it Hyunjoong. Why would she be here? Now I wonder how she is” and then he walked back to the film set.

It’s been a week since Minri gave Myungsoo his last will and testament. The papers were already notarized and locked up in their safe box in a bank. He was busy checking the papers Minri signed for the suppliers of Choi Gallery when her secretary hurriedly barged in his office.

“Sir, I’m sorry but I received a call from Choi Estate. President Choi collapsed ten minutes ago and they’re on their way to the hospital.” Shin explained.

Myungsoo dropped the papers he’s holding, grabbed his coat and rushed out of the room.

Somewhere over the Rainbow

Annyeong chinggus! Here's the new fanfic for all of you.I was planning to set this as per invite only as what I have written on the last post. However, a friend advised me not to do so. Let me just share her advise." You created a blog not just for a few people to enjoy. Be glad that you have readers and show your appreciation by posting fanfic."

It made sense to me so I decided to just let it be. To all those who replied on my previous post, thank you guys. I just hope that you will enjoy this new story. Thank you, thank you for your support. Here's the 1st chapter..

Chapter 1

It was a bright Saturday morning as Choi Mirin climbed up to the hill. He smiled as he remembered the reason why he has to brave the travel and took the train this morning all alone. He wants to spend this day with just the two of them. And as he gets near the place, his heart skips a beat- just like the old times. Nothing has changed after all these years.

“Good morning Yeobo. I’m sorry if I haven’t been here as frequent as before. Today, I have prepared something special for you. Wait till I unwrapped everything, okay?” Mirin uttered as he carefully placed the mat on the ground and took out all the packed food from the back pack. He laid everything out and lit the candle on top of the cake.

“Happy 55th wedding anniversary, Yeobo! I love you and not a day pass without me missing you.” He whispered as he dabbed tears from his eyes. He placed her picture in his chest and ran his other hand on the cold marble tombstone.

Mirin took a deep breath and gently sat on the mat. When his wife passed away four years ago, he thought that his life would end too. He never imagined living alone, she was his childhood friend, and they grew up together, fell in love and then got married. Although they were never blessed with a child, they spent more than fifty years of marriage bliss. She is his and will always be his other half, his soul mate and life.

“Yeobo, I can feel that I will be seeing you again soon. I can already feel that my body’s tired and even my heart. I know I promised to take care of myself. Honestly, Yeobo I did just that. It’s just that your husband is not so young anymore. I can feel the years already catching up. I already consulted our doctor and he advised me to take a lot of rest. That’s the reason why I haven’t been here for a long time. He doesn’t approve me of travelling, much more, travelling alone and via train. But, this is our day, Yeobo. I don’t want anyone else to be here. Now, don’t sweat too much, I know you’ll worry about me. I informed Mr. Jang to pick me up at around two in the afternoon so we can have time together, okay?”

He then decided to rest his tired body from the commute. He gently placed the picture frame beside him and hums their favorite song.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

The incessant ringing of the phone woke up Mirin. He was sleeping peacefully and didn’t realized that it was already time to go. It was two in the afternoon and Mr. Jang is already there to pick him up. He sat up and talked to his wife again.

“Yeobo, I promise that I will fulfill my promise before I leave this world. I will try my best to bring them back together. Happy anniversary, Yeobo. I love you Choi Hera.”

He packed up all his things and carefully made his way down the waiting chauffeur.

When he arrived home, he went directly to his room and called his trusted friend’s son.

“Myung Soo, hello, how have you been?" Mirin greeted him.

“Hello, Uncle.I’m fine. Are you doing well?” Myungsoo asked back.

“I’m doing good, son. Can you come and see me soon? I just need to settle something.” He requested.

“Okay Uncle. I’ll be there tomorrow morning before heading to the office. Would that be fine or would you like me to drop by tonight?” He confirmed.

“Just have breakfast with me tomorrow. We’ll discuss things then." Mirin concurred.

“Alright, Uncle. I’ll see you tomorrow. Take a good rest.” And Myungsoo bid goodbye.

“You too, Myungsoo and don’t forget to say hi to your Dad for Me.” he replied and hung up the phone.

After Mirin hung up, he went to his study room and busied himself. Only when he was called for dinner that he went out. After eating he went back to the study room and finished his work. It was almost ten in the evening when he put down his pen and gathered all the papers in one big envelop. He locked it in one of the drawers and locked the study. He went to his room, lit a candle and uttered a prayer before calling it a day.

At around seven in the morning, Mirin was up and about, sipping orange juice in the garden when Myungsoo walked in.

“Good morning, Uncle. You’re looking so happy this morning.” Myungsoo greeted and took a seat opposite him.

“I’m just happy Myungsoo. Come on and have some breakfast before we talk business.” And he asked the servants to bring in more food.

Myungsoo’s father –Park Kahi is Mirin’s best friend since middle school. They went to different university though, Kahi went to law school while he took up business course. When Mirin put up his own business after, Kahi resigned from his employer so he can work for his friend. His wife, Beka was already pregnant with Myungsoo when Mirin and Hera got married. The couple prayed hard that they too will be blessed with a child so that if it’s a girl they can pair them up. But after so many years of unfruitful trying the Choi couple conceded and just became second parents to Myungsoo. When Kahi suffered mild stroke just two years ago, Myungsoo took after his role as the Choi’s lawyer. He also helped out Mirin in running his business.

After breakfast, Mirin and Myungsoo went to the study room so they can talk. Mirin handed the envelop to the young man as soon as he was able to take a seat. He then took out the papers, scanned the details and asked.

“Uncle Mirin, why do you have these prepared?”

“Myungsoo-ah, I’m not that healthy anymore. I know that it won’t be long before I join your Aunt Hera. I have everything prepared so just in case God calls me soon, things will be in order." Mirin explained.

“But Uncle, I don’t understand. Why them?" He asked again.

Mirin retrieved another envelop in the drawer and handed it to Myungsoo.

“Everything will be explained in this Myungsoo. Open this when it’s time to read the will. I just want you to promise me that whatever happens you will ensure that everything written on that paper will be followed. Do this for me and for your Aunt Hera. Please, Myungsoo.” he appealed.

Myungsoo just nodded. He passed back the paper to the old man so he can stamp his signature. Once done Mirin sealed the envelope and hand it back to him.

“I will have it notarized Uncle and will put it in the bank’s safety box together with this envelop.” He stated as soon as he put everything in his file case.

“Promise me, son. You will help me make your Aunt Hera’s wish come true.” Mirin again beseeched to Myungsoo.

“I will do my best, Uncle Mirin.” He replied with sincerity. He then bid goodbye and left the old man in the study.

On the way out, Myungsoo can’t help but shook his head and utter..

“Why does he have to leave Choi Estate to Kim Hyunjoong and Hwangbo Hyejung?”
