The Curse

Chapter 4

Hwangbo got into her car and just drive with nowhere to go. She stopped at the nearest park and just stroll. After a while, she decided to just head to the mall to shop. But unknowingly, instead of driving directly to the mall, she found herself parking at Park Hyatt Hotel. She saw a lot of press people at the lobby.



“I’m not going to stay long. I’m just going to check.” She whispered to herself. She sneaked inside the hall where they held the conference. The hall was packed and she tried hard to become as invisible as possible. She stayed at the far most left, a big camera concealing her from the crowd. She pulled down her hood and  bowed her head down so they won’t see her face. Just as she finally settled on her chosen spot, the press conference started.


The MC thanked the reporters for coming and then introduced Hyunjoong. Hyunjoong walked towards the centre and bowed. Fans screamed and he just nodded his head in recognition.


“He looks so confident. I wonder how he can keep that when he’s into this mess. ” Hyejung murmured. She’s still in her little spot and carefully hiding behind the camera.


The MC announced that Hyunjoong prepared what he has to say and that all questions will be entertained after he finished. The hall settled down as Hyunjoong started his speech.


“First of all I would like to thank everyone for coming here today. I hope you’re all feeling comfortable in this conference. I would just like to make a statement and clarify the news spreading on the internet. I was actually surprised at first and was just planning to ignore it but seeing that it’s getting way out of hand, me and my company decided to clear things up."


Hyunjoong paused for a while took a deep breath and said.


“I am not gay” he declared.


“Of course.” A voice from back was heard. Everyone turned and camera started clicking away when they saw the person behind the voice.


“Buin!!” Hyunjoong uttered. Forgetting that he’s in front of the microphone and everyone can hear him.


Hyejung was surprised. She didn’t intend to say it out loud. She just found it so absurd for people to suspect Hyunjoong to be gay. Now, caught in the situation, she didn’t know what to do. She cannot hide anymore.


Reporters began shoving the camera and microphones in front of Hyejung.


“How can you say that he’s not gay when you’ve been separated from him?”


“Why are you attending this press conference? Are you still seeing each other?”




Hyejung was taken aback with all the questions. She’s berating herself for attending this press conference but she needs to do something now. She was about to speak when she felt a hand around her shoulders.


“Shillang.” She whispered. Hyunjoong just smiled and guided her towards the stage. His body guard surrounded them so they can pass. Still dazed Hyunjoong assisted her to take a seat beside him. Event committee tried to placate the reporters so they can continue with the event. Hyunjoong gave Hyejung his glass of water then whispered to her.


“Thank you for coming, Buin. I just didn’t know this will happen. Sorry for dragging you into this."


“It’s not your fault. If I could have just kept my mouth shut, this will not happen.” She answered.


“But I’m really glad you’re here." He replied and touched her hand.


“Well, since I’m already in this mess, you might as well follow my lead, ok. I’ll explain everything later.” She told him.


“What are you planning to do, Buin? “ Hyunjoong is confused and a bit nervous.


“This will be beneficial for both of us. Just let me do this and we’ll talk later. Arasso?” she asked him again.


“Fine. I trust you." He retort.


Hye jung smiled at him and signaled the MC that she’s going to talk. Reporters settled down again to listen to what she’s about to say.


“Sorry for the confusion guys. I didnt mean to steal the spotlight from Hyunjoong. It’s just that news like that is so hard to believe. As her ex-wife in WGM I can attest that he is not gay.” She said.


A reporter suddenly stood up and interrupted Hyejung.


“Hwangbo ssi, it’s been three years since We Got married. Things may have changed for Hyunjoong. How can you be so sure that he’s really not gay?”


Another reporter butt in even before Hyejung can reply to the first question.


“Did Hyunjoong invite you to be here, Hwangbo ssi? Do you still contact each other? “


Hwangbo answered immediately.


“Yes it’s been three years since WGM but I know Hyunjoong. He is not what this scandal is pointing him to be."



“There are pictures of him in the internet with other guys. And there were no news of you and him being friends with each other. For all you know, he already changed his preference.” A dodgy fat reporter guy interrupted her.


Hyunjoong reached out and was about to grabbed the microphone from Hwangbo but she stood up. He can sense that she’s really getting irritated with the reporter’s line of questioning. He was trying to ask his manager to tell the MC to stop the event when Hyejung answered the reporter’s question.


“I’m very sure that Hyunjoong is a straight man Mr. Reporter. “


“How so?” the slimy reporter rebuts.


“How so?” Hye jung answered back with a smirk.


“Yes, Hwangbo ssi. You seem to be so sure.” The reporter again challenged her.


Hyunjoong stood up to calm down Hyejung. He held her arms when she again replied to the question.


“It’s very simple Mr. Reporter. I know for a fact that Hyunjoong is not gay because ...” she paused and took a deep breath before continuing.


“He is my Man." Hye Jung declared. She grabbed the stunned Hyunjoong, smiled and kissed him straight on the lips much to everyone's surprise.
