Chapter18

Hyunjoong was sleeping in the day bed near Hyejung when he suddenly woke up from a bad dream. He sat up immediately and looked for Hyejung. A smile crossed his face when he saw her sitting up, talking to Victoria as the little one eats. He can hear her telling Victoria that she can study ballet, gymnastics or play the violin.He stood up and sat beside Hyejung.


“I think and Appa approves that we should enroll her in taekwando class, Jungie.” He gently told her.

“Appa enrolled me in taekwando class when I was eight.  If Vicky likes it then we can.” She replied.

“I think I will have a hard time warding off boys. Our Victoria is really pretty.” Hyunjoong answered back with a sigh.

Hyejung chuckled and replied. “Ah, it’s too early to think about that Hyunjoong-ah. Vicky’s only a day old and you’re already thinking about her would be suitors.Just learn how to bathe and change her diapers first.”

At the mention of bathing and changing diapers, Hyunjoong’s expression changed. Hyejung let out a hearty laugh and told him.

“I’m sure my family and yours will arrive anytime soon. Can you call the nurse so I can change?”

Hyunjoong did as asked and the nurses helped out Hyejung to have her quick shower.He was left with Vicky who was sleeping on the bassinet. He can’t seem to get enough of her that he was just staring at her sleeping peacefully.When Hyejung came back, he was still in the same spot and she can’t help but smile. No doubt in her mind that Hyunjoong will be a very doting father to Victoria.

At around eight in the morning, Hyunjoong’s family arrived. His mother, father and brother Hyerim came with a big bouquet of flowers, packed foods and teddy bear for Victoria. They were all so excited to see the baby and when the nurses came in with her, the grandmother immediately reached for her.

“ Aigoo, we got our princess now. She’s so pretty. And look at her hair. Grandma will buy you lots of pretty clothes and shoes. And we’ll buy lots of hair clips, tiaras and ribbons fit for my beautiful darling.” Hyunjoong’s mother lovingly blabbered to the sleeping baby.

Hyerim and Hyunjoong’s dad just sat there impatiently waiting for their turn to carry Victoria.Hyunjoong who was sitting beside Hyejung whispered.

“I’m sure Victoria will be spoiled by both our family.” 

“I afraid but I think so too."And the couple just watched as Hyunjoong’s family fussed over their baby.

Hyejung and Victoria were discharged from the hospital on the third day. Both their families were able to see the baby and advised that they will visit soon.  Now they’re on their way back home, Junjin and Bea are following them with all the gifts Victoria received.  Hyunjoong was driving carefully, Hyejung sleeping on the passenger seat, while Vicky is on her car seat cooing.

“Oh, my baby girl is awake. Your mom’s sleeping, princess. Are you hungry? Just wait a bit, okay. We’re almost home.” Hyunjoong talked to her daughter. As if she understood, Victoria became quiet but Hyunjoong noticed her hands still moving, so he knew that she’s still awake. When they pulled thru the driveway, Hyejung woke up.  She checked on Vicky and gently picked her up. Hyunjoong waited for them by the front door and just in time that Junjin and Bea arrived. They all head to the living room so they can share the snack Beka prepared.  They chatted for a while but then Victoria started crying so Hyejung head to her room for feeding. Bea and Junjin bid goodbye but promised to visit again soon.

How time flies, Vicky is now a month old. The couple faced a lot of challenges, being first time parents. From midnight feeding, to colicky baby, to changing of stinky diapers, Hyunjoong tried to be there for them.  As days past, Hyunjoong noticed that Hyejung became less tense and although sometimes he can still see that cloud in her eyes, he can feel that she’s opening to him more. She accepts his little hugs and she smiles more often now. 

Hyejung is busy bathing Victoria, when Hyunjoong popped his head on the bathroom.

“Honey, I’ll go to the groceries now. I’ll try to be back soon.” 

Hyejung just nodded and finished bathing the baby.  Beka, their household help went home yesterday since her father is sick. And since they will celebrate Vicky’s 1^st month, she asked Hyunjoong to do the groceries.

“Happy 1^st month princess! You know Mommy loves you right?" She talked to Vicky as she tried dressing her up. “ We’ll put you in a very nice dress since your grandparents will be here. You like that don’t you?”

Victoria coos and gave her a bright smile. She’s waving her hand and Hyejung can’t help but to tickle the baby’s tummy and shower her with kisses.

“Aigoo! My Vicky is really cute. That’s why you have your Dad wrapped around your tiny fingers. You know he’ll do anything for you."And then put her in her crib again so she can fix the baby’s room.

After giving birth to Victoria, Hyunjoong never left Hyejung’s side. He was always a step behind, always offering help. He would always offer to do the midnight feeding, letting her sleep by just heating up the pumped milk ,feeding and changing Victoria by himself.  One time, she woke up at around three in the morning and turned to check on the baby monitor but it was off. Then she noticed that Hyunjoong was not beside her so she stood up and checked the baby. She was surprised to see that the crib was also empty. Trying to calm her rapidly beating heart, she went down to check if the father and daughter were there. When she went down the living room, only the hallway lights were on and she can see a figure moving around. She tiptoed her way and she was surprised to see Hyunjoong, headsets on with Victoria on his arms. He was dancing while singing to her. And it seems that the daughter was also enjoying, she was looking at Hyunjoong, with the stare a baby less than a month can and she was smiling at him. Hyejung lightly tapped him on his shoulder and he gave a smile, exactly that of his daughter.

“Care to join us, Mom?”  He asked with a glimmer in his eyes.

“I’m afraid we’ll crush Vicky, just enjoy dancing, with her.” She replied with a smile and decided to just watch them from the sofa. Looking at him like that, Hyejung realized one thing; she is in love with her baby’s father. It took so long for her to finally admit it to herself. How Hyunjoong feels, she’s still unsure. There were times that she feels that he loves her but she doesn’t want to be presumptuous. But even if the love would be one sided; she’ll take the chance-not only for her but for her daughter.She was in deep thought when all of a sudden she was pulled up from her seat and with careful maneuvering, Hyunjoong moved closer to her and whispered while looking straight in her eyes.

“Let’s dance Hyejung”

Hyejung placed her hand on his waist as Hyunjoong hold the baby. She then placed her head on his shoulder and she was face to face with Vicky whose head was on the other side. She dropped a kiss on the baby’s cheek and the little family enjoyed dancing in the wee hours of the morning.

When Hyejung finished fixing Victoria’s room she picked up the baby who was just playing on her crib. She went down with her in the living room and wait for Hyunjoong.  She placed Victoria in her play pen while tidying up their place. At one month Victoria is such a darling, she doesn’t cry a lot and she just love playing with the mobile on her pen. Hyejung just talk to her as she busied herself with housework. She was hanging a simple banner she made for Vicky when the door bell rang. Expecting that it will be Hyunjoong or her parents she rushed and checked on the monitor. She was surprised to see the person on the other side of the door – it’s Jaekyung.

Hyejung opened the door and Jaekyung went straight to the living room.  Hyejung went ahead of her, standing near Victoria’s pen-guarding her. Jaekyung just smirked and declared.

“I’m here to claim what’s mine.”

Hyejung scoffed and replied. “What do you need, Jaekyung? Let’s cut the chase. As you see we’re busy right now.”

“It’s very simple Hyejung, leave this house. You and your baby. “Jaekyung retort.

“Why would we Jaekyung? This is where Hyunjoong is and this is we’re we stay. The only person who can order us to leave is him.”

“Huh! I can’t believe that you’re so thick-skinned. After seducing Hyunjoong in sleeping with you, in the house that is supposed to be mine, now you won’t move out even if he and I are back together.”Jaekyung ranted. Hyejung was stunned with her words and can’t believe all the lies she believed in.

Jaekyung kept on going. “You thought I wouldn’t found out right? I’m telling you Hyejung your dirty tactics wouldn’t succeed. What kind of example are you going to set on your daughter?"

“Don’t involve my daughter in here Jaekyung!” Hyejung fumed in. “You can believe anything you want but my conscience is clear. I didn’t seduce Hyunjoong. You two were over when I came in.”

“But if you didn’t butt in, we could be married by now, you bitch. It’s all your fault. And if the pictures I sent you were not enough proof that we are together now, I hope this one would.” And she threw an envelope to Hyejung.

Hyejung glared at Jaekyung and pulled the documents inside the envelop and read it. She fell on her knees, too stunned to process everything.

“Yes, Hyejung.  I’m pregnant and Hyunjoong is the father.” Jaekyung declared, her eyes gleaming and taunting her. She smirked and started walking away. When she reached the door she looked back and said.

“I’m giving you three days to move out or else I’ll make you.” And then walked out of the house.

Hyunjoong was very excited as he carries three grocery bags for Vicky’s little party.  He pushed the door open with his feet and called Hyejung. She was not answering so he just went ahead and was surprised to see her sitting still in the sofa. He can hear her softly crying so he put down all the bags quickly fearing that something might have happen to their daughter. He ran and kneeled in front of her.

“Baby, why are you crying? What happened?”  He asked full of concern.

Hyejung wiped her tears and uttered. “I’m setting you free, Hyunjoong. Vicky and I will move out today.”
