Chapter 8

“Hello, Kim Hyunjoongssi.” She uttered in meek voice.

Hyunjoong was stunned. She can’t believe it’s really Hyejung. He has been looking for this woman for so long and he can’t believe that she’s just in front of him now. But wait, there’s something different with her. 

“You’re pregnant?!!” he asked in shocked.

“No, I just had too much to drink.” She replied mockingly.

“This is not the time to be sarcastic, Hyejung.  Where have you been all this time? I have been looking for you.”  

 “I need to help out a friend with her business. I went out of the country.” She simply explained.

“Then, why didn’t you inform me. A simple text or call would do.” He asked again.

“Come on Hyunjoong. Why do I have to do that, you’re not my husband or boyfriend. I don’t have to let you know everything I do. And besides, you have your fiancé’ back now, right? Just be with her and don’t bother me.” Hyejung countered and stood up immediately. She turned her back to Hyunjoong and tried calling Junjin but he’s not answering. Hyunjoong just stood there watching her. When Junjin still didn’t answer her call she sat down again. 

“When are you due, Hyejung?” he asked.

Hyejung didn’t know if he’ll answer him. She racked her brain thinking what to tell him when she heard someone called her. Thank goodness for the lifesaver.

“Oppa?!!” she squealed. Oh, no. This is not happening. She thought it was Junjin but she was surprised to see her older brother walking towards them. This is not good.

“Hyunjoong-ah, better go now. My brother’s here so we’ll leave now.” Hyejung clumsily turned to push her cart but it was too late. Her brother’s already standing in front of her and Hyunjoong .

“Hyejung-ah. It’s good to finally have you back.” And her brother hugged her. Noticing Hyunjoong he asked. “Do you personally know Mr. Kim, Jungie?” 

“Ah, Oppa, he’s a friend. He just said hi.  Hyunjongssi- this is older my brother, Junho." She introduced the two.

Hyunjoong bowed and shook the older man’s hand.

“Jungie, we better go now, Omma and Appa’s waiting.” Junho told Hyejung.

“Okay, Oppa. Hyunjoong, it was nice seeing you again. Bye for now.” And she hurriedly wrapped her arm on her brother’s and then walked towards the exit. They were only a few steps away when Junho looked back and turned to Hyunjoong.

“Ah, Mr. Kim. Since you’re a friend of Hyejung, would you like to join us? We will celebrate the coming home of our prodigal sister.” He asked him and smiled at the frowning Hyejung. 

“Oppa, Hyunjoong is so busy. We’ll invite him some other time. Come on now don’t bother him.” Hyejung countered even before Hyunjoong can utter a word.

“Hmm, Junhossi, Hyejung, I’m free the whole day. I just got back from a tour in the Philippines. Its gonna be good to catch up with a friend." Hyunjoong replied with a smile.

“Ok, then come with us. But if it’s okay, try not to let this press people follow us."Junho ordered with a smile ignoring Hwangbo’s obvious rejection.

“Okay, but would it be okay if I’ll share a ride. I’ll ask my manager to divert these reporters’ attention.

“No worries. We’ll wait for you at the parking lot. Just hurry.” And Junho and Hyejung made their way out.

After about ten minutes, Hwangbo saw Hyunjoong approaching. His manager used his car and left so the reporters will follow him and let Hyunjoong escape. Junho asked Hwangbo to call him so she had no choice but to roll down the window and call him out. He run towards the car and then sat beside Hwangbo.

“Junho-ssi, sorry for taking too long. I just need to ensure that no one’s following me.

“It’s okay, Hyunjoong. By the way, how did the two of you meet?”  Junho asked.

“I commissioned her to do the interior design of my house. We’ve been friends since then.” Hyunjoong answered.

“Hyejung, why didn’t you tell us that he’s your friend? You always do that with your guy friends. And did you tell Junjin about him.”  Junho turned to her.

“No I haven’t Oppa. Oppa, would it be okay if I take a nap. I’m exhausted.” She made an excuse so she can avoid her brother’s questions. Junho nodded so she just closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.

All the while, Hyunjoong was just staring at her sleeping figure. She looks more beautiful now. He wanted to reach out and touch her but he restrained himself since Junho was just sitting in the passenger seat.  He just took his time gazing at her. He remembered how worried he was when he found her home locked up when he came back from a tour four months ago. He went straight to her house from the airport wondering what happened to her since she’s not answering his call.  He learned from the neighbor that she left just around two days ago. He regret coming back home late. He went to Hwangbo Interiors and checked if she’s in but her secretary told him that she’s out of the country and just sending her correspondence. He asked if she knows her contact number but her secretary refused. It seems like Hwangbo Hyejung left and she doesn’t want to be found. It really made him sad and missed her so much.

Hyejung, although eyes closed can still feel his gaze at her. She‘d rather keep on pretending to be asleep than face his questions and his brother’s. After sometime, she drifted off to sleep without meaning to.  Hyunjoong noticed that she’s now fast asleep since her head keeps falling on the other side. He scooted next to her then let her head rest on his shoulder. Hyejung snuggled closer to him and that made him smile. He then closed his eyes and also tried to catch a wink.

Junho was just looking at the two thru the mirror. He can sense that Hyejung’s keeping something from him about Hyunjoong but he’ll just play along for now. When they reach the restaurant he turned and woke up Hyunjong. Hyunjoong opened his eyes and smiled at Junho while Hyejung is still sleeping soundly. He just runs his hands on her cheeks so as not to startle her. She shifted a bit, then gently opened her eyes.

“We’re here, Hyejung.” He whispered.

Hyejung scampered from him and asked his brother. “Oppa, where are we?”

“Jade Blue, Jungie. Omma and Appa’s waiting. Come on.”  And Junho stepped out of the car.

Hyunjoong got out first then assisted Hyejung. They followed Junho and were lead to a big private hall.

As soon as Hyenjung stepped into the hall, party poppers were popped and loud cheer greeted her.

“Welcome back Hyejung!!” 

Hyejung was overwhelmed with happiness. Her whole family is here, Junjin and Bea and Kaye. After all the trouble she had cost them, they welcomed her back whole heartedly. She walked as fast as she could and hugged her mother.

“Omma, I miss you. I’m sorry for causing you pain.” She whispered in between tears.

“Its okay, baby. You’re here now, that’s what matters. “Her mother replied while wiping her tears.

“What are you doing here?” Junjin’s loud booming voice startled everyone and turned to the man standing awkwardly at hall’s entrance.

“He is Hyejung’s friend and we met him in the airport. I invited him to celebrate with us.” Junho calmly explained and motioned Hyunjoong to come in. He walked towards Junho and Junjin. He introduced himself and offered to shake Junjin’s hand but the latter ignored him. Hyejung walked towards them, sensing the tension between the two men.

“Hyejung-ah, why did you have to meet up with this guy again? After what he has done?”  Junjin asked in frustration.

“I’m sorry Junjin-ssi but I don’t know why you’re being rude to me. I’ve done nothing wrong.  If Hyejung and I are seeing each other, it’s none of your business anymore.” Hyunjoong rebuts.

“None of my business?"Junjin scoffed. “Well, let me tell you this. I am her best friend and I saw how hard it was for her to learn that she’s pregnant and that you’re going back with you fiancé at the same time” he explained with gritted teeth.

“Junjin!” Hwangbo yelled at him. Junjin just stared at her and continued.

“Now, if you don’t get it yet, Mr Kim. I’ll explain it simply to you…”  But Hyunjoong cut him off with a deadly glare and he turned to Hyejung.

“Am I the father of your baby, Hyejung?"

Hyejung was taken aback with what’s happening. She wasn’t able to answer instantly and was just staring at Hyunjoong’s grim expression.

“Am I the baby’s father, Hyejung? Damn it! Answer me!” Hyunjoong yelled.

“Yes! I’m pregnant with your child. You are the baby’s father!” Hyejung confessed in tears leaving Hyunjoong and her family dumb founded.
