Chapter 6

Hwangbo was already half way done with the project for Crown Hotel while Hyunjoong was out of the country to promote his new album.  He left the day after their “friendly date” but he kept on calling and texting her every day. Now it’s already seven in the evening but she hasn’t received any call or text from him. She’s starting to worry but tried to push it at the back of her mind so she can concentrate on her work.  At around 8pm, she called it a day and head home.

She kept on checking and waiting for his call even when she’s driving on the way home.  When she reached her apartment, she immediately parked her car and walk towards her house. She’s tinkering her phone, not looking at where she’s going when she heard someone call her name.

“Hyejung-ah!” 

She looked up and saw Hyunjoong standing by the door.  He’s smiling at her and she can see a big brown bag by his feet. She immediately ran towards him and asked.

“Why didn’t you tell me you’re coming home tonight? I’ve been waiting for your call.” 

“I just want to surprise you.  Come on; let’s get inside so you can open my gift.”  He entices her, holding the bag to her face. She just scoffed at him while opening the door.

Hyunjoong ran towards the living room with Hwangbo following behind him. They sat together on the sofa and Hyunjoong immediately turned to her when she sat down.

“ Hyejung-ah here’s my surprise for you.” And he hand the bag to her. His eyes twinkling with excitement and Hwangbo cannot help but to laugh at him.

“Seems like you’re more excited than me, huh!” and she began un-wrapping the gift.

Hyunjoong stood up and went to get Charley on the other room. When he got back, Hwangbo’s already hugging his gift – a big panda stuff toy.

“Hyunjoong-ah, Thank you! I really love it!” and Hyejung wrapped her arms around him. 

 Hyunjoong hugged her back and they stay like that for a while.  Hyunjoong ran his hands on her hair and suddenly the atmosphere changed. Hyejung  let go of him but he gently raised her chin so he can look at her.  When their eyes met, Hyunjoong dropped a kiss on her lips.

“I miss you, Hyejung-ah”

Hyejung didn’t respond but she also didn’t push him away. Hyunjoong sensed that she’s not comfortable so he let her go and they just keep still for a while.  

“When did you arrive, Hyunjoong?”  Hwangbo asked to break the silence.

“Just now. I went here straight from the airport. I just asked my manager to bring my luggage to my house.” He replied simply.

“Are you hungry? I haven’t had my dinner yet. Wanna join me? She asked again.

“Definitely! “He instantly quipped. “I’ll help you prepare.” And he stood up and the two head to the kitchen.  Hwangbo chopped vegetable and prepare kimchi stew while Hyunjoong set the table. He also run to the nearest convenience store and bought ice cream.  Dinner was served in less than an hour and they enjoy the simple meal.  They head to the living room after they clean up the kitchen.

“Are you not going home yet, Hyunjoong?” Hwangbo asked while watching television.

“Yah! You’re just planning to eat the ice cream on your own?”  He teased.

“Let’s just finished this and then you go home, okay?” she replied.

“Deal!”  Hyunjoong confirmed.

The two shared the tub of ice cream while watching an old comedy movie.  Half way thru the movie, she noticed that she was now laughing alone. She turned to look at Hyunjoong and a certain feeling touched her heart. Hyunjoong is already fast asleep, his head resting on the panda stuff toy sitting beside her. She didn’t have the heart to wake him up so she just turned the TV off, went to her room and get him a blanket and pillow. She then, whispered in his ear...

“Take the couch for tonight, you’re too tired to drive back home.” 

He opened an eye and looked at Hwangbo. She just smiled at him and gave him the blanket and pillow and got her panda stuff toy.  He then just lay down on the couch, and watched as Hwangbo turn off the light in the living room and head to her own bedroom.

It was the bright sunlight which woke up Hwangbo the next day. She looked for her clock and was surprised to see that it’s already ten in the morning. She cheerfully runs out of her room when she remembered that Hyunjoong slept on the couch last night. Disappointment crossed her face when she saw the couch empty, the blanket neatly folded on top of the pillow. When she picked it up to return to her room, a paper fell so she read what’s written on it.

“Thank you for letting me stay. I’ve had a good sleep. Enjoy your weekend. See you soon”

She just smiled at his note and decided to just hit the shower so she can start her day. She just got out of the shower when her phone rings. She answered immediately when she saw the name of the caller.

“Junjin-ah! Grocery? Sure. I’ll be ready in ten minutes

It’s been a ritual for them to buy groceries together. Junjin became her friend when she was in college and even now that he’s getting married their relationship remained the same. 

She went out of the house when she heard him honk his car. She run towards it and got into the backseat.

“Good morning,Junjin. Good morning Bea. !” she greeted the couple.

 “Yah, Jungie,you’re so chirpy this morning. What’s up?” Junjin teased her.

“I’m just happy that’s its weekend and I can rest."  She replied. “And besides, you know I love going to the grocery, right?” she added.

Junjin just nodded. They enjoyed the small talks and banters in the car on the way to the mall. They separate way in the grocery and will meet up after thirty minutes in front of the coffee shop. Hwangbo roam around the grocery, picking everything that’s on her list. She’s done in about twenty five minutes so she decided to just get a cup of coffee as she wait for the couple. She took a seat near the window with a cup of tea. After sometime, she saw them approaching so she raised her hand and waved at them. She stood up to meet them half way when the strong smell of garlic bread whiffed past her.  Her stomach began to churn and good thing the trash can was just a few steps away. She made a mad dash to it and unglamorously loses he breakfast in it. Junjin and Bea were stunned so they weren’t able to react. When Hwangbo was done, she was met by the cold stares of Junjin. He then ushered her towards the car.

“Where’s Bea?” she asked when she didn’t see Junjin’s fiancee.

“I asked her to buy something. We’ll wait for her in the car.” He replied coldly.

When Bea arrived, Junjin speed up the car straight to Hwangbo’s home.  As soon as they arrived, Bea ushered her to the bathroom and hand a kit to her.

“Yah, what is this?” she asked in confusion.

"Jungie, when did you last have your period? Junjin never told me anything but I guess he’s suspecting something. Just go and use this.” Bea explained.

Hwangbo was shocked when she read the box. It’s a pregnancy kit. She dazedly went to the bathroom, follow the instruction and after five minutes, when out of it, head to the living room and uttered.

“But it was just one time. What am I going to do?” 

Junjin just walk towards her and gave her a hug. He then whispered with gritted teeth.

“Im going to talk to that bastard!”

Hyejung came out of trance and replied “ No! Junjin-ah I’ll talk to him.”

Bea walked towards her boyfriend and tried to pacify him.

“Honey, let them sort it out by themselves. It’s gonna be both their decision. Come on now; let’s give Jungie time to think.” 

“Tell him tonight, Jungie or I’ll find him personally tomorrow.” Junjin ordered.  He hugged Hwangbo and then left. Bea hugged her too and then the couple left her on her own.

It was already ten in the evening, Hwangbo finished taking a shower and now getting ready to sleep.  She keeps on fiddling her phone, rehearsing what to tell Hyunjoong.  If she won’t tell him tonight, definitely Junjin will find out and will hunt for Hyunjoong. She took a deep breath; dial his number while gripping the pregnancy stick on her left hand.  When she heard him answer, she tried to talk normally although she’s trembling inside.

“ Hyunjoong-ah, can we have lunch tomorrow. I need to tell you something.”  She asked.

“ Sure, Hyejung!”  He happily replied.

Hwangbo took a deep breath again and asked. “You seem to be so jolly tonight, care to share?” 

“She’s back, Hyejung! My JaeKyung’s back!” Hyunjoong squealed in pure delight.
